LOG3G10 LUT for Advanced Color Grading Workflow Utilizing IPP2 REDWIDEGAMUT

Introducing Origami. LOG3G10 LUT for Red Digital Cameras. Origami LUT is designed to utilize high-end workflow for RED Digital Cameras using IPP2 REDWIDEGAMUT. Origami LUT was designed with simplicity in mind, delivering fast cinematic images with few clicks of the mouse. The idea behind this LUT was to create something filmmakers can use on the field and in final post-production stages where time is a major factor. LUT can be used with minimal basic adjustment for fast preview on the field, or in complex post-production pipeline using this LUT as a cinematic starting point for more finesse grading.

WORKFLOW

Let’s take a look at few examples and how I was able to achieve the results using Origami LUT

So here we have final image using the LUT

Before I start my color grading, I want to make sure we got the right settings. You don’t need to have actual RAW files to have this workflow as long as Intermediate files aka Pores or DnxHR used the same settings prior to rendering.

Before you apply the LUT it’s always a good idea to examine how much noise you have in your file. Generally, depending on the sensor, chroma noise may be present in the file, so it’s always a good starting point to take care of that in the first node.

Straight after applying the Origami LUT image may appear a little crazy. White Balance is. The main reason why that happens because Origami LUT was created to be versatile in many environments. If Color Temperature is off from the default point, image will look off. However, this is part of the inner workings of the LUT. All you have to do to counter that is to use the OFFSET wheel to dial the precise White Balance of your shot!

After dialing the White Balance to correct temperature all colors are set to be correct.

And just like that with only 3 nodes we got nice cinematic image. If you like to shape your image further, you can add additional nodes after the LUT or Prior depending on what you want to do.

EXAMPLE #2

For our second example, we are going to take a look at this image.

Exactly the same structure as the previous example but with additional nodes in the tree.

Very simple adjustments requiring a minimal amount of configuration. In this case by the default, image looks more extreme than the previous example.

But after simple offset adjustment we can see incredible difference in color.
