Aram K’s The FilmLUT for RED Cameras | Cinematic Image with one click of a mouse.
“Most Advanced LUT ever made” designed for high end color grading and skin precision in mind
Introducing Aram K’s The FilmLUT for RED Cameras | Cinematic Image with one click of a mouse.
I designed FilmLUT specifically for the professionals working in the fast paced environment from the preview on set, DI work, or final color grading. The simplicity of this FilmLUT, comes from the ability to quickly adapt the image to your desired color temperature without the need for tweaking multiple parameters in your color grading program. As the rule of thumb, every LUT is a great starting for color grading, so I decided to take it further and make this LUT not only a great starting point but finalizing LUT is well.
This sample below was Color Graded only using FilmLUT without any additions tweaking

FilmLUT is designed to keep skin tones as accurate as possible without contaminating the color range. With the simple adjustment, popular teal and orange look can be achieved just by moving offset control.

With a simple adjustment of the color temperature slider or overall offset, we can dramatically change the entire mood of the scene just with the few clicks of the buttons.

In this example below, the image on the left was transformed straight into FilmLUT, while the image on the right used FilmLUT and the node before the LUT to adjust color Temperature to make scene little bit warmer. Simple operation dramatically changes the mood of the scene without complex operations. Please note, for better, cleaner quality, using noise reduction in the first node preferred but not required.

Using FilmLUT outdoors
In this second example, I would like to use outdoor scene to show you how simple it is to get great image without using complex node manipulations.
The example below shows gamma RedLog on the left, and FilmLUT on the right. No additional configurations.

Now if we take this further and add basic color adjustments and highlights adjustments in two separate nodes (or one, depending on your preference), we can come up with these results.

As you can see, simple color temperature shift dramatically changes the mood of the scene and basically can be done just with few clicks of a mouse. These fantastic results can be achieved by simply applying FilmLUT to your clips without diving deep into color grading process making this LUT incredible starting point for any project.
All About The Skin Tones!
I designed this LUT specifically to keep skin tones as natural as possible. In the next series of examples, we can see how FilmLUT applies Cinematic Color Grading and keeps the skin tones natural. Original Temperature of the example below was 4800K

We can see that in this example, skin doesn’t look correct. The entire image is too blue and looking crazy. This is where clever adaptable design of this LUT comes to play. You can easily adapt the correct “neutral” color temperature just by playing with offset wheel, tint, or overall temperature parameter. In this example, only offset was used.

To use FilmLUT, minimal knowledge of Color Grading Required. Even if you not professional Colorist, you can still enjoy professional results just by applying this LUT. You can also combine FilmLUT to The Mule LUT to control overly saturated areas of the skin.

WARNING!
UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS SUCH AS BLOWNOUT HIGHLIGHTS, USING OFFSET WHEEL OR TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT MAY PRODUCE BLUE TINT IN THE BLOWNOUT AREAS. TO FIX THIS, USE RAW SETTINGS COLOR TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT TO DIAL MORE NEUTRAL FEEL TO THE IMAGE BEFORE USING COLOR WHEELS. AS OF DAY OF LUT RELEASE, IT APPEARS TO BE DAVINCI RESOLVE 16 SOFTWARE BUG CAUSING THIS.
